Our First Year and There is So Much To Learn

We're part of the late bloomers, the folks that have come to Walnut Creek this past year. It's been a blast and looking back on photos of our own property, we can see just how much work we've done and how the neighborhood is coming together. Our first challenges were easy ones, like picking the right garbage can. (Actually, the ones we selected we're not too happy with - the lids keep falling off), now we're focused on the landscaping and lawn. I have to admit, I was somewhat worried in January when our sod seemed to be "sleeping" real well. Now, for the most part our lawn is coming together. I wonder though if it really takes a few  years for it to grow in properly? Perhaps we can get some guidance on this.

The lawn has become my weekend obsession. We opted to do it ourselves for a number of reasons and it's a real sense of pride to see my work when it's completed. Learning to navigate the edge trimmer was a bit of a learning curve but I am happy to report - all is good and I can edge and trim with the best of them. A great feeling.

Before we know it, it will be Halloween. This will be fun for us. We don't have children but we're going to get into the spirit this year and it will be nice to meet our neighbors. So, that's on our radar as well.

Perhaps we should consider a Halloween Party? Your thoughts?
